Larry Carroll is one of the most successful advisors in the financial service industry today.  In recognition of his hard work, Carroll was recently named the #1 advisor with Cetera Advisor Networks.  And this isn’t his first rodeo - it’s actually his sixth time receiving this honour.

Larry is the President and Chief Wealth Strategist of Carroll Financial Associates, based in Charlotte, NC.  He established Carroll Financial in 1980 with a pretty simple approach, “The best interest of the client is the only interest that matters," and although it’s been a few decades, his philosophy remains the same.

So what does it take to be successful in the industry? It seems like Larry’s modest and humble attitude towards his achievements has something to do with it, but in his own words, Larry attributes his success to the people who helped him get there: his clients.

In the next couple of weeks I’ll have been in the business for 34 years, and the one thing I’ve learned is that there’s no magic bullet. Our team has always focused on our clients first.”

People who do well in this business are good communicators and good marketers. It takes a lot of communication and we try to do it in a positive and clear way. People need to understand what you are saying. We never pressure anyone and we don’t cold call. We just want to keep in touch with clients and people in our community who are centers of influence.”

One thing that’s evolved is a newsletter that goes out online and then is posted on our website. That’s one way we stay top of mind,” said Carroll. Interestingly, Larry and his son write all of the content for the newsletters. “Cetera has thousands of articles, but we use them for ideas and then pick up and go with it ourselves. That’s one benefit of having a larger firm - we can make time to write the newsletters ourselves.” This reflects another main tenet that Larry believes has helped him succeed: communication.

Recently though, communicating with new prospects has changed a little. “Today and within the past year, we’re starting to see new prospects come in because they found our website. They liked what they saw and gave us a call.”

So how do people find the Carroll Financial website? “Most people search for 'Charlotte area financial advisors' or something similar. I also do a guest spot on a radio show where I always refer people to my website.”

Of course there are many factors that contribute to an advisor’s success, but Carroll Financial seems to have nailed it. The firm is focused on creating a clear, open channel of communication and has never forgotten who matters most: the clients who helped them become one of the best.
